Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!

 

My name is Rhonda Frisch Cooper and I am a kindergarten teacher in Henniker, NH. My kindergarten classroom is located in The Henniker Community School in Henniker, New Hampshire. We are located about 20 miles from the state capital of Concord. Our school has elementary and middle school grades from preschool through the eighth grade with 500 students. I have two half-day sessions with about 10-12 children in the class. Our classes meet from 8:15-11:45 am and 10:55-3:00. Listed below are several sites for parents, teachers, and students to explore covering a variety of topics!

1.   Wheelock College Internet Resource

Wheelock College is located in Boston, MA and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in early childhood education, special education, general education, child life studies, etc. This site offers parents, educators, and students of all ages a variety of topics: arts & humanities, early childhood education, general reference, internet tools, math/science, parenting resources, professional organizations/associations, special needs, children's literature, electronic journals, government resources, political science/history, psychology, technology in the classroom, curriculum resources, general educational resources, health/child life, public health, literacy/reading resources, multicultural resources, social work, and women's studies.

 

2.   Scholastic

This is the site of the Scholastic Book Clubs for grades preschool through eighth grade. This is a wonderful site for teachers, parents, and students about their books, curriculum materials, magazines, teacher resources, current events, book fairs, book clubs, fun projects for children and adults to do at home or at school, software and internet items, and T.V., film, and video materials.  If you want to order from my monthly book club orders with a credit card please use:

3. Eat Right

This is a very informative site for parents and educators about foods and nutrition. It is the American Dietetic Association Child and Nutrition and Health Campaign for 2003. One can log onto sites about their position papers for dietary guidelines for children 2-11 years; school based nutrition programs and services; child and adolescent food and nutrition programs; nutrition standards for childcare programs; and many other papers are also available. Sample menus and recipes are presented; visual aides for classroom use, such as the food guide pyramid; suggested games, projects, books, videos, and software are also listed; and so much more!

This site is for parents, educators, and children with LD issues. There are several sites updated weekly covering the following topics: What's New?; ABC's of LD/ADD; LD in Depth; First Person; The LD Calendar; Audio Clips; Kidzone; Finding Help; The LD Store; Talk Back; Bulletin Boards; and Search. There are many strategies and ideas for parents and teachers as well as art work and writing samples from students from all over the country!

6. Exploratorium

This is the museum of science, art, and human perception. Online since 1993, this site is a virtual as well as a real museum located in San Francisco. CA. It brings experiences and resources for teachers and students, and new exhibits may change monthly. In addition to the regular information about the museum (directions, exhibits, events, admissions etc.) it also tries to incorporate as much science content as possible. On this website, you will find pictures, news items in science, electronic versions of hands-on exhibits, and even how to dissect a cow's eye!

 

7. The Gateway

The Gateway to Educational Materials or G.E.M. is a special project sponsored by the US Department of Education's National Library of Education, and is a special project of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology. It has 5375 educational resources listed as of 4/16/08! This is a fabulous resource for parents, teachers, librarians, storytellers, and students. It is written and updated by David K. Brown from the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is the "Internet resources related to books for children and young adults." It features many links to a variety of related subjects: Newberry and Caldecott winners; hundreds of links to authors and illustrators; best book guides; resources for parents, students, teachers, librarians, storytellers, etc.; lists publishers of children's literature; lists children's literature organizations; lists movies and television programs based on books; gives book reviews; and much more!

 

9. Museum Hotlists

This is a wonderful site sponsored by the Franklin Institute of Science in Philadelphia. It lists links of 29 science centers and museums, 23 natural history museums and other cultural institutions, and 26 art museums, zoos, botanical gardens, aquariums, and arboretums all over the world! There are also many other educational "hot lists" on a variety of educational topics, subjects, and units of study one can easily link onto! One can easily spend hours in this site!
